AI for Beginners is practical, non-regulated TrainifyHUB training for adults and workplace learners who want a broad, non-technical introduction to artificial intelligence. Across eight teaching Modules, learners explore what AI is, how machine learning and generative AI work at a basic level, common everyday uses, clear prompting, hallucinations and verification, responsible AI and bias, privacy and cyber-security awareness, and a simple safe-use routine. The course uses a UK learning and workplace context and keeps human judgement, information protection and responsible use central throughout.
· Explain core AI concepts and common AI-supported tasks.
· Use simple generative-AI tools for suitable low-risk tasks with appropriate human review.
· Write clearer prompts and understand why better prompting does not guarantee factual accuracy.
· Check important AI outputs and recognise hallucinations or unsupported claims.
· Apply responsible-use principles relating to bias, fairness, transparency and accountability.
· Protect personal and confidential information and recognise common AI-related cyber-security risks.
· Use a practical safe-use routine and identify when to escalate or seek specialist review.
COURSE CONTENT
Module 1 - What Artificial Intelligence Is and How It Is Used
Module Learning Outcomes
By the end of this Module, learners will be able to:
· Explain AI in plain language at foundation level.
· Identify examples of tasks AI systems can support.
· Recognise that AI capability does not remove the need for human judgement.
Module 2 - Machine Learning, Generative AI and Large Language Models
Module Learning Outcomes
By the end of this Module, learners will be able to:
· Describe machine learning at a basic level.
· Explain what generative AI does.
· Explain the role of large language models in text-based generative AI.
Module 3 - Everyday AI Tools and Common Use Cases
Module Learning Outcomes
By the end of this Module, learners will be able to:
· Identify common everyday uses of AI.
· Distinguish suitable support tasks from decisions that require stronger human judgement.
· Explain why product features and access can vary.
Module 4 - How to Give AI Clear Instructions
Module Learning Outcomes
By the end of this Module, learners will be able to:
· Write a clear instruction for a simple AI task.
· Add useful context, constraints and output requirements.
· Recognise that better prompting improves usefulness but does not guarantee factual accuracy.
Module 5 - Understanding AI Outputs, Errors and Hallucinations
Module Learning Outcomes
By the end of this Module, learners will be able to:
· Explain an AI hallucination.
· Identify claims that need verification.
· Use original or authoritative sources to check important information.
Module 6 - Responsible AI, Bias and Fairness
Module Learning Outcomes
By the end of this Module, learners will be able to:
· Explain why fairness, transparency and accountability matter in AI use.
· Recognise that AI outputs can contain bias or uneven patterns.
· Know when to question an AI-assisted recommendation and seek human review.
Module 7 - Privacy, Data Protection and Cyber Security Awareness
Module Learning Outcomes
By the end of this Module, learners will be able to:
· Recognise when AI use may involve personal data or confidential information.
· Explain the principle of using only the information needed for the task.
· Recognise prompt injection and data poisoning as cyber-security risks.
· Follow approved-tool and organisational controls.
Module 8 - Using AI Safely and Building Your Next Skills
Module Learning Outcomes
By the end of this Module, learners will be able to:
· Recall the six Skills England foundation skills.
· Apply a simple safe-use checklist before relying on AI.
· Identify appropriate next steps for continued learning.

12 questions answered
Adults and workplace learners who want a broad, non-technical introduction to AI.
No. The course is designed for beginners and does not require coding or machine-learning engineering knowledge.
AI basics, machine learning, generative AI, everyday uses, prompting, hallucinations, responsible AI, privacy, data protection, cyber-security awareness and safe-use habits.
No. It introduces clear instructions at foundation level. Advanced prompt engineering is outside this course scope.
No. Clear prompts can improve usefulness, but important facts may still need checking.
Yes. Learners are shown how bias or uneven patterns can arise and when human review is appropriate.
Yes, at awareness level, including personal data, confidential information, approved tools, prompt injection and data poisoning.
Yes. There is a separate 15-question single-answer multiple-choice final assessment.
80%, which is 12 correct answers out of 15.
Yes. Successful completion of the course and final assessment results in a TrainifyHUB certificate of completion.
The eight teaching videos total approximately 49 minutes 22 seconds. Learners should also allow time for the final assessment.
No. It provides foundation training. Learners must still follow current organisational controls, professional requirements and applicable law or guidance.
· Explain artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI and large language models in clear beginner-level language.
. Identify practical everyday AI uses and distinguish support tasks from decisions that require stronger human judgement.
· Write clearer AI instructions using task, context, constraints and output requirements.
· Recognise hallucinations and verify important facts using appropriate original or authoritative sources.
· Recognise bias, fairness and accountability concerns and know when human review is needed.
· Handle personal, confidential and commercially sensitive information more safely when using AI tools.
· Recognise prompt injection and data poisoning at awareness level and follow approved-tool controls.
· Apply a simple safe-use checklist and identify appropriate next learning steps.
AI tools are increasingly used for drafting, summarising, organising information and supporting routine work. Without a sound foundation, learners can over-trust confident outputs, use unclear prompts, mishandle sensitive information or rely on AI where human review is essential. This course provides a practical foundation for using AI more safely, critically and effectively while recognising its limitations.
On successful completion of the course and final assessment, learners receive a TrainifyHUB certificate of completion. The certificate confirms completion of TrainifyHUB training; it does not represent government approval, a regulated qualification or an external professional licence.
