CITB Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)

CITB SSSTS is the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme, a two-day course within the Site Safety Plus suite covering construction site supervisory health, safety, welfare and environmental responsibilities.

It is designed for people who hold, or are about to hold, supervisory responsibilities on construction sites.

The course lasts two days and requires full attendance for 15 hours, including course delivery and examination. Breaks are not part of the 15 hours.

This course is delivered live online on Zoom with a tutor, interactive activities and assessment. It is not a self-paced recorded course.

The scheduled 2026 batches are 31 October and 1 November; 14 and 15 November; 28 and 29 November; and 19 and 20 December. Choose one complete two-day batch.

Day 1 runs 07:30–16:00 and Day 2 runs 08:00–16:00. All times are UK time. Full attendance is required.

Yes. You must attend both days in order and complete the full 15-hour course to be eligible for certification.

CITB states there are no formal entry qualifications, but delegates should hold, or be about to hold, a supervisory role. Previous health and safety knowledge is recommended.

Topics include supervisory responsibilities, health and safety legislation, risk assessment, method statements, toolbox talks, occupational health, higher-risk work and environmental protection.

Assessment includes participation and trainer review, together with the required end-of-course examination. Your tutor will explain the current assessment instructions and requirements.

No. Certification depends on full attendance and successful completion of the required trainer review and examination.

The certificate is valid for five years. Complete the appropriate refresher before expiry to maintain certification; do not let your certificate expire before arranging renewal.

No. CITB SSSTS focuses on site supervisory responsibilities. CITB SMSTS is a separate course aimed at site management responsibilities. Choose the course that matches your role.

Prior experience can support your learning, but it does not replace the mandatory full attendance and assessment requirements for this CITB SSSTS course.

Tell your tutor or administrator immediately. Missing required attendance can prevent certification and may require rebooking. Do not assume a recording or brief catch-up will replace attendance.

No. CITB SSSTS certification does not automatically issue a CSCS card. Card applications have their own occupation, qualification and test requirements.
