Safeguarding Children Awareness and Protection

This Level 2 Safeguarding Children Awareness and Protection course provides essential knowledge and practical guidance to help learners understand their responsibilities in protecting children from harm. It covers key safeguarding principles, types of abuse, early warning signs and behavioural indicators, as well as the importance of recognising patterns rather than isolated incidents. The course explores professional duties including duty of care, the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead, and correct procedures such as recording, reporting and referring concerns. Learners will also gain insight into responding to child disclosures with a compassionate and trauma informed approach, while understanding the importance of accurate documentation and confidentiality. In addition, the course addresses modern safeguarding challenges, including contextual risks outside the home, digital threats and the need for multi agency collaboration in line with UK frameworks such as Keeping Children Safe in Education. This course equips learners with the confidence and competence to act responsibly and effectively in safeguarding situations.

Module 1: Safeguarding Children Level 2 Fundamentals

By the end of this module, learners will be able to learn:

• Understand safeguarding and child protection concepts

• Identify types of abuse including physical emotional sexual abuse and neglect

• Understand roles and responsibilities in safeguarding

• Recognise key UK legislation

• Explain why safeguarding is everyone responsibility

Module 2: Vigilance and Vital Indicators in Safeguarding Children

By the end of this module, learners will be able to learn:

• Recognise patterns of abuse rather than isolated incidents

• Identify behavioural and physical indicators of harm

• Understand warning signs such as withdrawal fear and secrecy

• Identify digital safeguarding risks and online exploitation

• Understand the importance of early intervention

Module 3: Safeguarding Protocols and Duty to Act

By the end of this module, learners will be able to learn:

• Understand duty of care and safeguarding responsibilities

• Explain the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead

• Follow procedures including record report and refer

• Understand information sharing principles

• Recognise when to escalate concerns and use external reporting

Module 4: Supporting a Child Disclosure with Compassionate Response

By the end of this module, learners will be able to learn:

• Respond appropriately to child disclosures

• Apply correct dos and donts when listening

• Understand limits of confidentiality

• Record disclosures accurately

• Apply trauma informed care principles

Module 5: Modern Safeguarding and Contextual Risks

By the end of this module, learners will be able to learn:

• Understand contextual safeguarding beyond the home

• Identify risks from peer groups gangs and exploitation

• Recognise digital threats including AI related risks

• Understand early help and multi agency response

• Apply safeguarding practices aligned with KCSIE 2024
